4, 5, 6 апреля - FIRST RIGA FRENCH SALSA MEETING APRIL 2007

Как уже сообщалось в апреле к нам приезжает Френсис с его друзьями, вот первая информация о этом мероприятии! Информация предворительная и будет ещё пополняться! Не пропустите!

Итак – что?

Рассказывает Френсис:

All dancers and Salsa Schools have a French rendez-vous in Riga salsa place.. from the 3rd to the 6th of April 2007

Arrived by chance for now a few years in Latvia, I felt literally in love with this country, people who live there , and their way of apprehending life, salsa, and dances in general.

Fanatic of the city of Paris, I always imagine a salsa meeting between those two countries (countries of adoption), when the big and “the little Paris” become only one.

For everyone, the idea to gather in one week the best salsa teachers, for workshops, is not new. Thus, the first salsa congress took place in Los Angeles /USA in 1999. This great event with thousands participants has proceeded every year and was imitated in the entire world.

Sometimes, as participant, we are often lost there , or rather wishes for a better overall picture in a family context, united whatever the country or salsa schools you could come.

That` why I decided to organize such a meeting in Riga..

Therefore the term “Familia” and the idea of “exchange” are inside our name;

Dancing Salsa is above all the first pleasure at Salsafamilia French dance team.

For this reason, we don`t only give lessons in a studio (which often should be said sterile ) but we prefer to continue these meetings in pleasant bars, clubs where you can drink glass directly after the classes with new friends, and practise new combinations with new students.

If the dance pleases to you, progresses come automatically.

We concentrate on few French and Latvian artists but “first category” (It`s very important for us during this meeting you learn this dance correctly.)

Those French Teachers who will come have been dancing dance for several years experiences and have all of them already great universally recognized successes!

and thus let`s have the possibility of a really better knowing us in workshops of at least 90 minutes, and to thus better learn how to understand our style of dance and teaching.

We believe that exchange in the workshops will be able to benefit for each other, French and Latvian dancers because our different origins.

On the other hand, this required depth will not be made with the detriment of the diversity of Workshops proposed; on the contrary, the other styles of salsa dance are represented often too little.

With this meeting, cuban Rueda styles, Mambo on1 and 2 and New York Style, the Latin jazz and tropical dances (Zouk, Socca, Reggæton, Bachata and Meneito) have the same rights.

I defend an active cohabitation and believe that the various salsa dance styles grow rich mutually and make thus finally the salsa world more interesting and more rich person.

Riga appears ideal to us in the continuity of our long way to the salsa discovery , but , the most important from a philosophical point of view is to join together those 2 cities if resembling only together In one event.

Finally, The doors will be open for you! If you are interested, you can without problems come to see the courses and to make 1-2 lessons to convince you.

If you are old or young, you have two left legs , or you are a professional dancer, everyone is welcome on our premises and can learn this attractive dance with us in our way! At the latest after those courses, beginner you are or advanced , should be ready to go to dance in Rigas fiestas Latinas!

So, Let me to introduce you my partners, your future teachers and friends probably..

You can notice that every character plays a special role inside the team like the fundamental elements on this Earth:

Francis, the Passion

It`s often difficult to speak about own self but one thing is sure I am someone who is impassioned by all that I do (at work, salsa and personal).

Coming from Indian Ocean, I grew around various traditional musical influences and it is in France I familiarize the most with the Scene.

In 1998, after mixing disco and house music for different clubs as a DJ (CESAR discotheque, les BAINS.) I discover salsa dance floors in 2000 and its exiting nights and dancers universe in Paris.

After a long way of rigorous salsa dance training I become the best Cuban style dancer of the capital area two years later in the famous Montecristo Club.

In 2003, parallel to my engagements of teaching in La Pachanga and Le Barrio Latino (clubs proud to be the greatest Cuban and mambo salsa references in Paris nowadays) I continue to travel regularly abroad for my training, particularly in New York.

Dancing for a short time in YAMBU DANCE COMPANY (2005), I preferred to confirm my new passion, “the choreography” by the creation of shows or dancing for casinos in Las Vegas, Barcelona, Tunis, Ljubljana or Sydney.

Thanks to my meetings and my different experiences, I considerably improved my music listening and my practice of the dance and animation.

Now I am still looking for innovations which can help me “to give you” (wherever you are on this planet), a salsa training "of the style of the day" to enter into my team, la SALSAFAMILIA.

Mab: The controlled TECHNIQUE, the Earth

Mab is recognized like one of the principal actors of the world Salsa scene. He taught in a great number of Salsa festivals all around the world. He also has the occasion to propose his talents of choreographer at the time of the representations of PARIS SALSA GANG to the U.S.A and in Europe.

Mab is installed in his dance studio in Paris where he specializes on the style of mambo on 1&2 and salsa Tango, concentrates mainly on the figures and combinations, with much of insistence on the technics of guidance. And he`s the first teacher who organized the first salsa battle in Europe (France vs Italy in 2006).

As his element (the Earth) his pedagogy rests on his calms and his good mood; his perception always different from salsa and his great technique makes him a professor impossible to circumvent in your search of a solid base for beginners and for a great rise in competence of the advanced level dancers.

Marie: sensual and fluid, the Water

Born in French Alps, Marie has been living inside the world of dance and made parties of multiple salsa companies in France since 2004. it is with Francis that she takes her first step as a dance professor in Le Barrio Latino, the Duplex, and el Ballajo.

At the same time, she integrates the famous team of ALEX LIMA DANCE STUDIO in 2006 when she becomes his exclusive partner for various congresses in Europe.

Fluid Like her element ( water), Marie can benefit from the influence of its entourage in life as on the dancefloor (dancers with very high levels) and thanks to her perseverance became one of the sure values of the Parisian scene. Today she arrives at Riga to teach what generally for a dancer the most difficult to acquire: how to express in salsa dancing the sensitivity and the Emotion.

Jean Charles: ENERGY and intuition , the Fire

Coming from the French caribean islands, he always lived in the Dance (zouk, kompa, dance hall) and this passion initially leads him to teach salsa with the young people, by the “awakening through the dance”.

Thereafter, he got several times on scene for shows and animations. Autodidact, he decides to improve his technics of “Rueda de casino” thanks to his many journeys repeating to Cuba. By rediscovering the Latin rhythms which bathed his childhood, he decides into 2005 to widen his practice of the dance to the REGGAETON and hip hop.

The interbreeding of his musical tastes, his various experiments of the scene, teaching, shows and his taste for animation are found today in his dance.

Like "fire", he will be able to heat shy dancers and cold ambiances by his enthusiasm on the salsafloor seldom equalized, and in Riga, Jean Charles wishes to prove to you that the best way of learning and to progress in salsa is to have fun and to trust your own intuition. I have rarely meet a dancer with as much energy.

Noemie: Pure and creative, like the AIR

She was born under the sun of the French Antilles... Rocked from her birth by afrocaribean musics and the rates of her country. She decides into 2000 to pass one of the salsa clubs door in the East of France where I met her the first time..

It`s in 2002 that she decides to go to London to follow her new passion: the mambo. The same year, she met super Mario who proposed her to take courses with him and, noticed by him ( thanks to her pure style and light like "the air"), proposes to her into 2006 to be a part of SUPER MARIO SALSA DANCE COMPANY. Thus, during all her training of dancer, she has the chance to be a part of the close salsa relationship of super Mario, but also the sound advices of her favourite dancer Leon ROSE.

the same year, temptation is too large... she joins U TRIBE (one of the best salsa team in the world) to continue an International career which will take them along, on many occasions, around planet. Japan, the USA, Turkey, Italy, Europe, etc.

Her passport fills at rhythm of the training courses she gives with LEON ROSE who selected her to be his

official partner

Lastly, Noйmie never forgets, at the time of international congresses of salsa, like this meeting in Riga, to present the culture of her talent that precision of movements and great creativity which makes the difference.

This girl does not dance, it floats like an angel.. mustn`t be missed.

Misa : Polyvalent and opening, the spirit

Born in Prague, and after many years of practicing outdoor sports, Misa discovers at 17 years old the world of "dance sport" and since, Dance becomes the principal contents of her life.

Earlier, she attends also Jiri Rebec`s courses within Contemporary Dance Theatre and, few later reaches with her partner Denis Forster, an international level in the standard dances.

After many competitions, she arrives at the tenth position at the Czech 10 dance championships and start to collect many prices and titles; (4 times Czech standard dances champion in the category of teams).

Little after, she decides to use all her dances experiences to teach; she obtains the highest possible qualification for instructors of dance sport at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport of the Charles University, then in 2005 moves in Italy, in Turin to devoted herself entirely to salsa dancing (her first love).

Nowadays she makes a part of Prague group CONGA Y CLAVE and, is a member of the group S.E.C.S. Salsa Team.

She looks like “the spirit” of the Earth, quite at the surface in lifetime but, with fire temperament when you propose her to dance any Latin steps wherever on this planet.

Few dancers on dance floors can adapt itself faster than she does with its partner, and success every time to create that game and pleasure for spectators eyes.

Misa can give Latvians great clues to success in this difficult “exchange exercise” called Salsa, Bachata or Merengue. For me she is what I called an “Artist” as Rita ( Bindare), because of their both high sensitive taste of movements, always trying to touch the perfection. So, maybe that secret is hidden under the “Opening”.

David, the ARTIST

Why the nickname of this guy is LARTIST`? That could appear pretentious, but the story started when he played football during his childhood. His friends and trainer did not cease repeating to him: "Hey the artist! Stop dancing on the ground, and just play football!" Since, this nickname remained to him until salsa dance floor.
Dancer for more than 20 years, he began with the urban dances: Hip-Hop, Jazz rock, Funky, Soul Afro... which brought to him his own technique, a personal control and a really single style (old school style).
His salsa adventure begins after the projection of the movie SALSA (Porto Rican version) 10 years ago.
After a short Cuban initiation in Paris Montecristo, he decides to continue his training several months in Puerto Rico and dance congresses all around the world.
Back to France, he was one of the first teachers who promote Salsa L.a style, that makes him (almost) the biggest figure of mambo parties in Paris; all his events he organize are always crowded and look like him, dandy con class with high quality.
Today, he travels all around the world to enrich and develop his single salsa style thanks to this original mixture of Brazilian, Eastern, afro-Cuban, soul and funky with Linda, his partner.
They are recognized universally and always invited to represent France in international salsa festivals. You liked their shows "Salsa disco", "old school», you will adore their very last "Oriental mambo" and find them soon with new surprises.
In Riga, you will have the occasion to learn his elegant, dynamic and sensual style thanks to his courses and his irreproachable pedagogy, the whole in a convivial environment and good mood.

Dance Definitions:

The Meneito is a kind of ”the Latino Madison”, one part of the many Dominican dances created in the end of 90`s. It about a dance without contact which is practised on line, alone or in couple, all doing the same moves in response to a shouter`s leads to animate Latino parties. it`s only at the beginning of this century that European clubs get that fever.

The Cha-cha-cha (in Spanish chachachá) is a Latin American dance derived from the rumba and mambo in 4/4 meter.

Reggaeton is a type of Spanish language dance developed in Puerto Rico in the mid-1990s. It has now become popular in other Latin American countries. Reggaeton - also spelled Reggaetón and hispanicised as Reguetón - blends dancehall and hip hop genres, with additional influences from electronic, bomba, plena, and other styles. This gives Reggaeton its distinct Latin touch.

Rueda de Casino is a particlular type of round dancing of Salsa with a group of people in a circle all doing the same moves in response to a caller`s commands. Between 1950 and 1956 It was developed in Cuban casinos in Havana (CASINO DEPORTIVO, CASINO LA PLAYA, CASINO SPANISH), and by the famous group Guaracheros de Regla and one of its main choreographers and creators was Jorge Alfaro.

Mambo “break on 2” : A Latin dance, similar to Salsa, which comes from Cuba. Mambo was brought to America in the 1940`s and 50`s and eventually adapted as an American style ballroom dance. Most of the movements emphasize the second beat in the measure, suggestive of the Clave rhythm which is fundamental to Mambo music.

The Rumba was originally a marriage dance. Many of its movements and actions which seem to have an erotic meaning are merely depictions of simple farm tasks. The shoeing of the mare, the climbing of a rope, the courtship of the rooster and the hen, etc. It was done for amusement on the farms by the black population of Cuba. However, it became a popular ballroom dance and was introduced in the United States about 1933. It was the Americanized version for the Cuban Son and Danzon.

Salsamba is a mix between salsa and a rhythmical Brazilian dance in 2/4 time which has been adapted for modern Ballroom dancing. SalsaSamba is noted for it`s distinct style of movement, which incorporates both Latin hip motion , afrocuban men style , samba lady styling and the signature "SalsaSamba Bounce".

Salsa Tango takes more from tango than salsa dancing. In the American and International ballroom styles, a dance in 2/4 time, which originated in Argentina and is characterized by catlike walking action and staccato head movements with salsa timing and shines. Characterized by stunning, sharp head-turns and provocative figures this Latin dance interessed more and more lain dancers. Combined with probably the world`s best known dance after the waltz, the modern salsa tango developed in Europe in 90`s. It took its rhythm from the Cuban habanera and the Spanish tango andaluz.

Bachata is a Popular dance rhythm from the Dominican Republic. Often typified by a jangly guitar line and simple arrangements played in 4/4 time.
Does not obey clave.

Merengue is a Dominican rhythm and dance. The basic step of the dance is an extremely simple two-step pattern, but it`s only Merengue with the right, somehow contrary, hip movement - wich adds the main difficulty to learn the dance.

Lambazouk , this latest dance crazy has its roots from the Northeast Coast of Brazil and the Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. The exciting look of this dance on European television took the Continent by storm in the late 80`s. it is a style of rhythmic music originating. It has its origin in Cadence music from Dominica popularise by Grammacks and Exile One Zouk means "party" in the local creole of French with English and African influences, all three of which contribute the sound.

Latin jazz: A hybrid of jazz and Latin dance. The term could cover anything from a Cuban style to a straight American jazz style movements.
Generally this dance progresses on more or less full Latin rhythmic music section, or one combining several Latin and jazz elements, and an instrumental frontline.

Salsa Disco is an up-tempo style of dance coming from the mix between salsa and disco dance that originated in the early 1970s, mainly from funk and soul music, popular with audiences in larger cities all over the world, and derives its name from the French word “salsa discothèque”. Few salsa dancers in the world (like David Lartist) preserve this style considered as “old school” that makes it really original
